Friday Mixtape #7 - No Rain

This week we've got a mix of the old and the new, guilty pleasures and pop gems. Don't be put off by the 90s-tastic intro, (I couldn't help myself - after singing Shannon Hoon's hits with the ladies last night) there are other hidden pleasures within, including a Gallic Favorite and both vintage and modern electro disco. Sweaty.

The only real theme to this mix is that it is unashamedly POP! Music that makes you want to wiggle your bum and shake your hips into that hot little young thing you met on the dance floor. And why is it called 'No Rain'? If you're in Dublin right now... just look out yer window! It's nearly June! BBQ season ahoy.

Friday Mixtape #5 - Better Things

This week I'd like to use the mixtape send a message to the sun: GET BACK OUT HERE! It's halfway through May! This playlist should be enjoyed whilst sitting on grass, leaning back, sun drenching your face, wind breezing through your hair, a cold beverage in one hand, daisy chain in the other.

As usual, a mix of the brand new and the vintage, but with one similar theme...bring out the sun!!!
(editor's note: I just realized actually... the theme should actually be "proper nouns" as it appears that six of ten songs are named after people or places. Whaddya know?)

Friday Mixtape #4 - Fade Into You

This week's selection of tracks are a little bit more mellow and melancholy than usual. My hometown is burning out of control and it's giving me those weird nervous sadness pangs, so my mixtape is a little bit more... sad... this week. I like to think of this mix as a little love letter to Santa Barbara - Starting with my old neighbor Mike Love's band, The Beach Boys, it's also got some of my 90s guilty pleasures stuck in there, and then ends with a track that Lydia reminded me of, which you'd have to be a robot not to get a little heart-flutter listening to...

Don't fret however, let's not get too depressed. It is, after all, the start of summer, so take it easy, sit and chill and drink some icy cider and close your eyes and relax and let it all slip away. It's Friday.

Friday Mixtape #3 - Cool For Cats

Happy May Day! This here is the number three Love Action Friday Mixtape!

This week's selection of tracks are quite an eclectic mix, from the mellow cocktail-hip-hop mix with a bit of indie and dance with a little dollop of the synth rock of the 70s & 80s and a 60s French heartbreaker for good measure.

On a more personal note, a few of the songs are quite near and dear to me as they were created by some of my favorite people whom I don't get to see far enough of. The first track, Nocturnal, is a mix by my very own little brother, D.T.Dubbs. Michael Garafalo, of Latitude/Longitude, covers Wire's 'The 15th'. Mike is a really good mate and former band colleague from back in my New York days. 'A Wedding' was written by Dan Fetherston of the Oxford Collapse, who I spent the ages of 19 to 22 intensely attached to, and I still consider a close friend.

Or you can always download the plain aul mp3 version at this address: loveactionmixtape.blogspot.com

I hope you enjoy the mix - and of course please feel free to contact me with any suggestions, fan or hate mail.

Tracks included are:
1. Nocturnal - D.T.Dubbs
2. Mathematics - Little Boots
3. Right With You - Pink Grease
4. Cool For Cats - Squeeze
5. Inaugural Trams - Super Furry Animals
6. The 15th - Michael Garofalo
7. I Can't Stand It - The Velvet Underground
8. Good Times Roll - The Cars
9. Ce Soir Je M'en Vais - Jacqueline Taïeb
10. A Wedding - Oxford Collapse

As mentioned above, a few of the tracks on the mix were self-produced by friends and aren't available on iTunes. I did try, however, to bring you something a bit close to the mix. D.T. Dubbs sampled Esquivel's 'Harlem Nocturne', and there's a link to Wire's 'The 15th' which was covered by Michael Garofalo. Pink Grease's album Mechanical Heart was never released but there are a few limited copies available from this website: http://www.sheffieldvision.com/pgdvd.html

till next week
